Indigenous solutions
for a better world.

Strive for a world where Indigenous peoples & solutions are truly valued to protect biodiversity.

Value.
Uplift.
Protect.
Re-Indigenise.

Te Tira Whakamātaki is an independent Māori not-for-profit working across Aotearoa and the globe to enact our right to protect the taiao, our environment.

We work with kaitiaki, tohunga, and hapori to ensure their voices and mātauranga (knowledge) are genuinely valued, provide timely information, and build capacity. We mobilise at place through research, education, engagement, and advocacy.

We are the Watchful Ones.

OUR WORK

Protecting nature by valuing Indigenous solutions.

Working across Aotearoa, we build networks and mobilise communities to complete vital environmental research, promote mātauranga Māori as the solution to the biodiversity crises, and engage with kaitiaki to ensure they are supported and safe in colonial systems.

ABOUT US

Indigenous Peoples and their solutions are essential for the protection of biodiversity on this planet.

We strive for a world where nature is in balance. Where we honour our connection to Papatūānuku (Mother Earth), and all her living beings.

Where we remember and respect our role as tēina, the younger siblings of, and kaitiaki (guardians) of te taiao, our natural world.
